Summary

Zooni Haksar, an intelligence officer in Jammu & Kashmir gets a lead on a Mujahid. On an unofficial face-off between the army, officials prompted by Zooni and the extremists, they eliminate Mujahid. But Zooni’s actions cause chaos in the valley of Kashmir and as a result, she’s sent back to Delhi to take a backseat.

Zooni is approached by Rajeshwari Swaminathan, a Bureaucrat who works at the PMO, and is handed the big responsibility of handling the increase of violence in Kashmir. Rajeshwari appoints Zooni as the head of an independent team that take care of identifying crucial terror activities in Kashmir and reports only to her.

As Zooni busts a gang that’s actively receiving funds from terror organizations, Rajeshwari was silently working on the plans to abrogate Article 370 giving Kashmir a special status. As her research team tries to find a loophole in the law passed by the then Indian Government, her judicial team spots one major correction made in the original law that was mentioned nowhere.

The PMO should now take a daring decision followed by a series of risky actions to abrogate Article 370. The rest of the story is about how India manages to handle the situation, the violence, and also the Pulwama attack that happened in the middle of this series of events.


Review

A common man from India who is not much indulged in the political scenario of the country too is aware of the abrogation of Article 370. It is because of the huge impact the scrapping of this law made in Indian politics and a whole series of dramas that happened in the background. As the media back then made this a chaotic event, most people weren’t aware of what Article 370 was and why it was essential to scrape it off to secure India. The movie throws light into exactly that, exposing the proceedings that led to the abrogation of Article 370.

Dealing with such a serious political story is not an easy task when it comes to filmmaking. Adithya Suhas Jambhale delivered a crisp yet clear depiction of the event that led to the historical event. Keeping the transparency intact and also dramatizing the events necessary for the movie, the events that happened during the time of Article 370’s abrogation were depicted very clearly, letting people become informed about the same.

Yami Gautam was phenomenal as Zooni. Her performance was outstanding throughout the movie and was a big plus point. Priyamani handled the mature PMO official in a convincing manner. Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar who portrayed the role of the PM and Home Minister of India delivered an applaud-worthy performance.

Overall, the movie upheld a good technical finesse as well as a perfect cast to fit the script. Emotional parts of the story worked well and so was the elements that were intended to invoke patriotism during the narration.

A well-made political drama that narrates the series of events that led to the abrogation of Article 370 in India. A worthy watch!
