Introduction
Bhoot Police is a 2021 Hindi-language film that was recently released on Disney+ Hotstar and is currently streaming on the service. Despite the fact that the film was originally scheduled to be released on September 17th, it was actually released a week earlier, on September 10th, as a result. The film stars Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles, as well as Yami Gautam, Rajpal Yadav, and Jacqueline Fernandez in supporting roles.
Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor also appear as supporting characters. Pavan Kirpalani directs the film, and he has previously worked on other films in the same genre as this one. The film is only a little more than two hours long, but it feels like it goes on for much, much longer.
In the film, Vibhooti, and Chiraunji, played by Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor, respectively, are two brothers who are what would be classified as either ghostbusters or tantriks. In contrast to his younger brother Chiraunji who is dedicated to his profession and hopes to carry on the legacy of their late father Ullat Baba as one of the most famous ghostbusters of his time, Vibhuoti is only interested in making money and getting women. He is not a believer in the existence of ghosts or haunted mansions in the traditional sense.
Plot Analysis
In the hills above the city, the brothers are hired by two sisters who have gone bankrupt and whose mansion is allegedly being stalked by an extraordinarily powerful ghost. Do you think Chiraunji will be able to maintain the family legacy or do you think this exorcism will go horribly wrong?
Bhoot Police easily falls into the newly discovered horror/comedy genre, and as a result, it was almost inevitably going to be compared to Amar Kaushik’s 2018 film Stree, which was released the same year. In its own right, Bhoot Police is a passable comedy film and a mediocre horror film, depending on how you look at it. When compared to Stress, it performs even worse than before. Although most of the cast, particularly Saif Ali Khan, put in outstanding performances, the film is only mildly entertaining throughout.
Crappy Writing
The dialogue is poorly written, and the one-liners become cringe-inducing pretty quickly. Aside from that, the film is overly reliant on the cliches of its genre, which makes it a frustrating watch. It’s almost as if they were trying so hard to make it scary that they threw in everything they thought you’d find even a little bit creepy. That, however, did not work, and the film did not scare or even unnerve me in sufficient quantities for me to believe it did justice to the cliches in question.
Only plus points
Cinematography and set design are two aspects of Bhoot Police that work to its advantage. You can see the attention to detail and the thought that must have gone into each and every shot, as well as the preparation for them. Even though there is only a limited plot to carry the film though, the film is visually quite interesting.

Bhoot Police is only enjoyable if you go into it with no expectations, and even then, it is only mildly bearable on a general level. The comedy quickly devolves into cringe-inducing hilarity, and the jump scares can only go so far. It’s a film that was made to appeal to the masses because of the presence of well-known actors, and the film, frankly, does them no justice. Is there a better option? Instead, watch the film Go Goa Gone.
