Plot Summary
The life of two photographers turns around when they accidentally click the murder scene. They were hired to do some research work by a newspaper publisher. After that accident, they face challenges and adventures which leaves the audience in a rain of laughter.
A carefully created mess we all loved and enjoyed
It is a satire, a farce, a comedy, a tragedy, a drama, or whatever you call a wonderful job. There are so tons of things to appreciate in this movie. Performance, script, rhythm, camera, dialogue, humor. This is a masterpiece. This movie has a legend like no other. What I like most about this movie is its unique narrative, that is, finding the corpse. Sudhir and Vinod worked the entire scene.
They don’t just look around. One person shot another, died, and then searched around for the body. Each character stretches to the maximum. Ashok is a spy so he spies with binoculars, Sudhir and Vinod use the same script to attract their clients, Demello is a corrupt mayor so he made his own plan instead of just taking bribes. They are simple things that can bring out the characters. Ashok greeted Thaneja every time he saw him. Even when he came to power during the Mahabharata, he would say “good morning sir” and then step into his role. Ahuja drank so much that he took a coffin for the sports car. Priya is the bait used by Tarneja, so she has a romantic angle with everyone she meets (including Ashok). The commissioner mistakenly cried into the microphone and spoke of “Gutter.” De Mello is interviewed by Time magazine. Ashok came in with a loud sycophantic (“Lattu Ho Jayegee Lattu”) and threatened Shobha by accidentally kicking him in the back, who twisted his nose with a wrench.
Every scene and every character is stretched. It is like a myth. Pandu gave the photographer a “Hul” before realizing it was on TV. Tarneja blatantly talks about her success. Shobha blatantly changed her color. The time bomb at dinner. A corpse on stage (how would anyone think of this?). I do not know if it is possible to write this type of script on paper.
Unreal Scene of Mahabharta
Let me talk about the Mahabharta scene yet again. This is the moment when I legit rolled on the floor laughing. The dialogues were counterintuitive and incongruent. Nothing you will see today in any form of entertainment media. I canβt imagine how fearless the writers were back then and how accepting the audience was. The way this scene was accepted gracefully and enjoyed is beyond me. I wish I was born back then.
Conclusion
You can open a dictionary and start looking for adjectives of praise. Youβll have diarrhea choosing one to describe a movie. Let alone coming up with a line. There are tons and tons of words out there. After thinking for a long time and chugging six & a half cup of coffee I came up with a line which I think suits this film the most; βJaane Mat Do Yaaro!β Donβt let this one pass away. Those who have seen this movie know what I mean by that and those who havenβt see it gonna find out after the film. Take Care.
