One Line Review: Little Miss Sunshine is one of those rare movies that make you connect with its character and story at the eternal level.
Introduction
Welcome. Today I’m talking about a movie that I clicked on accidentally and ended up liking so much that I couldn’t help myself to write a thriving article reviewing it.
On this day, Little Miss Sunshine was released. This movie quickly climbed into the favorite lists of people. This movie had a smaller budget of just $8 million but managed to collect $100+ million at the box office.
Trivia
The girls participating in the beauty contest were real-life pageants of beauty contests. They wore the same outfits they wear in the real-life beauty contest.
Iconic dialogues from this movie
Frank: So, if you sleep til you’re eighteen…Think of the suffering you’d miss! High school’s your prime suffering years. You don’t get better suffering than that! Unless you go into academia, but that’s a different story.
Dwayne: You know what? Fuck beauty contests. Life is one fucking beauty contest after another. You know, school, then college, then work, fuck that. And fuck the air force academy. If I wanna fly, I’ll find a way to fly. You do what you love, and fuck the rest.
Critic Reviews
“The best thing about American cinema is that besides the studio-assembled big-ticket movies, there’s also the flourishing indie film movement which keeps throwing up some delightfully refreshing movies.” Outlook
Plot Summary
A family goes on a road trip. Everything was normal and adventurous until the 11-year-old daughter decides to participate in a beauty contest. This led the family to rush into hilarious problems and situations.
An Accidental Comedy
I deleted a lot of games from my PC after getting bored and now I had plenty of time to kill. But I could not find anything to do. That’s when I stumbled upon this movie. Watching it was not my first choice but I had nothing else to do so I clicked on it. I am not regretting my decision as this movie turned out to be one hell of entertainment for me.
The way this movie started as a road trip it looked like a pretty straightforward story. But then the twist started. Right in between the road trip, the 11-year daughter of Mr Hoover wanted to participate in a beauty contest. That’s when this movie started to throw laughter at you. Out of nowhere, this movie turns into a comedy. To put it even more precisely, an accidental comedy. The scene (spoiler ahead) where the grandfather dies halfway through the journey and the family rushes to rescue the dead body in the hospital so that they get to the beauty contest on time was hilarious.
The characters or so engaging in this movie that after just 10 minutes I was already caring for them. I was connected with them at an eternal level. That’s something very hard to get into any movie. Only very few movies and TV series have managed to do that like Friends, Fast and Furious, James Bond series, The Big Bang Theory, and How I met your mother. So kudos to the director and writer of this movie. I could not help to invest in the movie. It made me cry and laugh a lot.
Acting of Paul Deno
Paul Dano played the character of Dwayne who happens to be my favorite character of all time now, even though you won’t hear much from him in one-third of the movie in the beginning. Dwayne is a kind of a guy who is silent but notices everything. If you have seen the movie you will know what I mean. The moment he found out he is colorblind is very emotional and touching. He felt trapped, he wanted to say something but could not because of his emotions. What marvelous acting by Paul Deno!
Conclusion
This movie is my accidental favorite. I’m going to watch it again once my memory of it fades a bit. Maybe after a year or two. I’m pretty sure that I’ll still get amazed because this movie has it that most of the films lack; Persona.
