β€œYeh dosti hum nahin todenge

Plot Summary

Jai and Veeru get called by the ex-police inspector Thakur Baldev Singh to take revenge on Gabbar Singh. Gabbar killed Thakur’s family and cut both his arms off. Jai and Veeru take things lightly but get shocked after seeing Gabbar’s terror. They get to know Thakur’s story and get ragged with anger. Now they prepare themselves to take down Gabbar.

The psycho villain

You thought that we will talk about Sholay and Gabbar’s name won’t appear on any heading? Well, actually no one thought that. I just made that up to look more hirok and cool. There are 5 big things in Sholay that make this film the true icon of Bollywood; Gabbar, Jai-Veeru, Thakur, Basanti, and The village Ramgarh. [ Fun fact Ramgarh is just 17 km away from my place and they still have the mountain where Gabbar’s scenes were shot and I have seen them. This definitely makes me look cool] “Ye Ramgarh ki ladkiya konsi chakki ka aata khati hai?”

Remember this dialogue question mark of course you do. Well, Sholay was the first film that got its hype from a villain but Hero. Gabbar became insanely viral, that too in the era of no internet. The psycho young rebel Gujjar who does not take no for an answer likes to play gun games and who made Basanti dance in front of dogs (okay. I’m sorry for the bad joke). The fear of Gabbar remains constant throughout the movie and turns into a strange guilty after his defeat.

Jai-Veeru Duo

The second most important aspect of Sholay is the comic come bonding duo of Jay and Veeru. They were pals in the film. Friends that can do anything. They are notorious and young. No one had the courage to go against Gabbar Singh but they showed guts. After Sholay, Bollywood used the concept of casting two big fishes into a movie and grabbing the audience’s interest. Films like Karan Arjun and Mela are good examples of that. The acting of Amitabh and Dharmendra are the best of their very big career and I mean it in a very positive way full stop their acting for the life into the roles of Jay and Veeru especially Dharmendra his character has bow significance to this film then off Amitabh although you might differ from me but think about it.

Thakur, Basanti, and the village Ramgarh

My god, there is so much stuff to write and there is so little space left to let me put everything very briefly. Basanti is the third big element of the film. Her bubbly and cute attitude was catchy and lovely. Veeru’s chemistry with Basanti was worth the money. Thakur was the dark side of the film. He was the contrast. When the scenes changed from Jai Veeru Basanti to Thakur the aura of the film changed completely there was a sense of unhappiness in Thakur. Great acting. And the last one is village Ramgarh. The story revolves around the village and its people. Here’s another fun fact: Ramgarh is actually a city. Not a village. But the film shows just a small portion of the city to make it look like a village.
