Review
Kannur Squad is a commendable attempt by the whole filmmaking team, as it will be hailed as a realistic yet mass crime thriller to be made in Malayalam. It is no surprise if Kannur Squad gave you a Deja-vu feeling, as it mimics the mood of Karthi’s Theeran Adhikaram Ondru. Although both movies are treated very differently,
While Mammootty helms the lead role of the script, it is not limited just to him. Mammootty, Rony, Aseez, and Shabareesh are the leads of this movie. Oh, and yes, a Tata Sumo. Even a vehicle travels throughout the movie as a central character, and only thoughtful writing can have such an impact. The writers have focused on how to narrate a tale that happened for real in Kerala by mixing just the right amount of mass elements to give the perfect yet toned amount of goosebumps through the narration. Mammootty has aced enacting the role of a ‘cop-next-door’ character.
Sushin Shyam’s score is one of the major highlights in the movie. Certain portions of the movie could have been a hurdle, but the storytelling was cleverly boosted by Sushin’s scores, and he gave the right amount of adrenaline to the viewers. Roby Varghese Raj’s directorial debut assures another promising filmmaker’s entry into cinema.
Conclusion
Watch Kannur Squad to enjoy a steady-paced crime thriller where the writing is neat and is packed with some really good acting!
