Introduction

Animated Mexican fantasy miniseries Maya and the Three is directed by Jorge R. Gutiérrez and stars Zoe Saldaa as Princess Maya, Gabriel Iglesias as Picchu, Diego Luna as Zatz, the Prince of Bats, and Gael Garca Bernal as the Jaguar Brothers. Maya And The Three is a television series that is heavily influenced by Mesoamerican art. The series is divided into nine episodes, each of which lasts more than thirty minutes.

Plot Summary

‘A young girl embarks on a quest to save the world in this family-friendly epic from the minds behind The Book of Life and Elena of Avaior,’ says the press release.

With a setting in the heart of Mesoamerica, Maya And The Three follows the journey of a fifteen-year-old warrior princess named Maya as she embarks on the perilous quest of fulfilling a prophecy that says three warriors will aid Maya in defeating underworld gods and rescuing humanity from certain destruction. It seemed like Princess Maya had it all until she turned fifteen! Maya’s world was forever changed when the underworld came knocking on her door.

Mays’s Victimism

Maya is simply a victim who is being punished for the sins of her ancestors, as mentioned by the gods of the underworld. Maya, on the other hand, is not scared by the crisis surrounding her, and instead emerges as a hero! During her time on Luna Island, Maya befriends the ordinary Rico, who is hailed as “the greatest wizard who ever lived.” She also comes into contact with the reclusive Chimi, who is hailed as “the greatest wizard who ever lived.” When the mountain barbarian Picchu joins the group, Maya’s long journey to defeat the gods of the underworld is finally at its conclusion.

Maya And The Three, described by Netflix as a ‘animated event told in nine epic chapters,’ was created by Jorge R. Gutiérrez, who spoke at length about the character of Maya, our fiery warrior princess, months before the show premiered on Netflix. Gutiérrez was heavily influenced by the women in his life (his mother, wife, and sister) while writing Maya, and he even alluded to similarities between Maya and his previous works, such as The Book Of Life and El Tigre, in his writing.

Extremely beautiful visuals

The series is visually stunning, and that is all I have to say about it. With vibrant and beautiful colors, Gutiérrez has created a world in which Maya’s shades shift and change as she travels from kingdom to kingdom, which only adds to the depth of the storytelling process. What is the most enjoyable aspect of this animated series? The perfect combination of warmth and levity!

Maya, our main character, is a role model for little girls all over the world because she is strong, brave, passionate, and humble. Despite the fact that Maya is the central character of this story, it is her individual relationships with the other characters that allow her true personality to be revealed on screen. The most endearing aspect of Maya is her willingness to admit when she is wrong, demonstrating that true bravery is not always about battlegrounds – something that even the actress who voiced Maya, Zoe Saldaa, acknowledged in an interview.

Conclusion

Maya and the three
Maya and the three

While Maya and the Three is an uplifting story of love, friendship, and forgiveness, the novel is also about inclusion. Many Mayan legends and mythical creatures were introduced into the series by Gutiérrez, which made it even more enthralling and entertaining to watch. When it comes to animated shows, this one is a must-see if you enjoy action and adventure to the fullest extent possible – Watch and cry along with Maya and her friends as she embarks on a journey of discovery and humility, as well as incredible amount of courage!
