One Line Review: Muppets Haunted Mansion is a fun romp with all of your favorite characters, but it’s a little too shallow to keep anyone other than children and true Muppet fans entertained for the film’s brief runtime.

Introduction
With The Muppets Haunted Mansion, we have a new special that gives the Muppets gang another chance to experience horror. It is difficult to deny the cultural influence that The Muppets have had. The first season of the show featured some of the biggest celebrities of the time. The countless appearances, movies, and various television appearances have all had their place in history, with some of them being considered masterpieces of children’s television programming. The Muppets Haunted Mansion opened in 2021, and, despite having its share of memorable moments, it failed to feel cohesive in the same way some of their more exciting adventures have in the past.
Plot analysis
According to the plot, Gonzo and Pepe are invited to a mysterious party in the middle of nowhere hosted by an enigmatic magician, and the story revolves around their experiences. There is little information available about the party or its host, but this is exactly the type of adventure that our beloved blue daredevil enjoys participating in. With all of the other Muppets at a Halloween party, the two are left on their own, which is how they come across the haunted mansion, which is filled with ghosts, spirits, and the possibility of doom.
It’s a fun setup that has a lot of potentials to be successful. It provides The Muppets with an opportunity to do what they do best: perform a series of short skits and comedy gags that are all themed around Halloween, scares, and the ghostly nature of the world-famous Disney attraction.
Varied cast
A whopping number of celebrities join The Muppets on their journey, including Will Arnett (Ghost Host), Yvette Nicole Brown (Hearse Driver), Sasheer Zamata (Mary), Darren Criss (Caretaker), and a slew of other well-known actors. When it comes to bringing a diverse range of characters and actors to the mansion, Disney has outdone themselves, making the mansion feel like it’s crammed with ghosts, creatures, and other things that go bump in the night.
The only thing missing from The Muppets Haunted Mansion is a cohesive story that ties the events of the attraction together. While I enjoy random adventures and gags, the motivation for the journey feels so flimsy that it never manages to transcend the realm of television specials, feeling more like a variety show than a full-fledged feature film, which is unfortunate.
Moments in the film
There are plenty of memorable moments, and the classic Muppet antics that we all know and love are on full display, but Gonzo’s lack of motivation beyond “Why Not?” prevents him from carrying the story forward as effectively as in the past. The Muppets have brought some classic stories to life, with A Muppet Christmas Carol, I would argue, being one of the best adaptations of that story ever made. However, this outing didn’t feel like it was well thought out or well executed.
Conclusion
Despite this, The Muppets Haunted Mansion is yet another Muppet adventure that provides enough entertainment to keep fans of the franchise entertained for the entire 90-minute running time of the attraction. There are some funny moments, some catchy songs, and all of the characters give their iconic takes on various classic creatures and ghosts in this film. If you are a parent, or simply someone who wants to go on another adventure with The Muppets, you will not be disappointed with The Muppets Haunted Mansion at Disney World. This is a party that would be better left unattended for the rest of us.
