One Line Review: Netflixβs Oxygen is, ironically, breathtaking
Introduction
While weβre in shortage of oxygen during the corona crisis, Netflix decided to launch its own. Ironically, it is breathtaking. Let’s find out why…
Plot Summary
A woman finds herself trapped in cryogenic cylinders and doesnβt remember how she got there. Now she has to find a way out of that place.
Melanie Laurent and plot
This is a solo show because Melanie Laurent is commendable for her performance as a patient with amnesia. She wakes up in the freezer and tries to figure out how she got there and how she can escape with the help of the IA MILO guide. The plot of this movie is reminiscent of “Burial” starring Ryan Reynolds, but this time we are dealing with a high-concept idea, which cannot be mentioned without destroying the movie. Melanie Laurent was fully competent and made the film effortlessly. Your character’s discovery of his past, present, and future provides a moment to show his great talents, and let us care about a character who, like the character himself, knows nothing.
Direction
What I like most about this movie is that it does not lose power during the entire operation and it can attract the attention of the audience. Although it is set almost entirely in one place, the script always finds clever elements to keep the plot going and often reaches the kind of tension that audiences expect from such a science fiction thriller. The director of Alexandre Aja is never boring and uses clever camera skills to keep tension and suspense. Aja’s cleverly crafted plots always have a sense of commitment, although some plot reveals are a bit convenient and appear exactly when you expect them.
Conclusion
An absolutely wonderful movie, always keep your attention. This is a movie written in such a way that you start wondering how everything will play out, and once you understand what’s going on, it will only add to the brilliance of the movie.
I suggest you watch it in French, even if you are a native English speaker like me. The sheer emotion in MΓ©lanie Laurent’s voice is obvious.
Overall, I think Oxygen has benefited from the creative and well-written script, from Aja’s strict director, and of course from the performance of Melanie Laurent, who carried the entire film on her shoulders.
