Plot Summary
Eddie Brock attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady, who later becomes host to Carnage and manages to escape from prison following a failed execution.’
Starting right with action
The first scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage shows police officers removing young Frances Barrison, aka Shriek, from her home (played by Olumide Olorunfemi). When Cletus Kasady (Jack Bandeira for the younger version) is separated from his lover, he is shattered. The action shifts to a prison cell two decades later, where Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) is being held. He expresses a desire to meet Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) in order to tell his story to the rest of the world.
Cletus Kasady is a serial killer who enjoys the act of killing for the sheer pleasure of it. Venom and Eddie get into a fight because the former believes he should eat Kasady’s head while the latter disagrees. During their debate, they come across the bodies of the victims who had been murdered by Cletus over a long period of time. After much drama and a scuffle between Cletus and Eddie, the serial killer is chosen to be the host for Venom’s spawn, Carnage, to infect the world.
Carnage is synonymous with destruction in the film, as the villain goes on a killing spree that is far more powerful than Venom’s. For Venom and Eddie, who are separated as a result of their differences, it is a difficult situation to be in. So, how will the two of them re-unite to fight Cletus/Carnage this time around? Will Venom and Eddie be able to overpower Carnage and save the city from destruction? Everything is addressed in the film.
Action plus suspense
Venom: Let There Be Carnage gets off to a strong start with a plot that leaves you intrigued to find out what happens next. While writing the story, it is clear that Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel were having a great time. This novel is brimming with suspense, humor, drama, and a few surprising turns. In their’relationship’, Venom and Eddie are rendered helpless by director Andy Serkis, who has done an excellent job of capturing this helplessness. After all, just like every other couple, these two have disagreements that are not always easily resolved, and this is no exception.
The constant arguments and random scenes between Eddie and Venom, as well as the slow dialogues between Eddie and Cletus, slow down the pace of the narration. It takes a long time to establish a particular point in the story. Even when Carnage appears, the narrative slows down to allow us to witness the insane state in which he is trapped. While it may work once or twice, showing his violence in the same manner on a regular basis is too much for him.
The battle between Venom and Carnage is exactly what one would expect when two powerful beasts come face to face. People’s lives are on the line as a result of the shriek adding to the confusion. Venom and Eddie must put aside all of their differences in order to defeat the powerful monster filled with rage and retribution.
When it comes to performances, Tom Hardy is, as always, outstanding. Woody Harrelson portrays a self-assured serial killer in the film, which is directed by David Fincher. The way he smiles and talks about his killing hobby is creepy, and it makes you respect the actor who plays him. In the story, Naomie Harris didn’t get much of a chance to show off her abilities. Only the jokes are funny; the dialogue is passable.
Conclusion
VENOM: Let There Be Carnage is, in its entirety, madness and mayhem rolled together. In this story, you are not encouraged to think too hard about what you are reading. There are all of the elements you look for in a superhero story that keeps you glued to the screen, even if the narration becomes stale at times. The story concludes on a cliffhanger, but a mid-credits scene teases something more interesting to come. Venom 2 is a good one-time viewing experience, especially for fans of the original.
